The fine line between having fun & being scared

I've had this blog saved for almost a month now and have been meaning to publish it. Sorry for the delay!!

Davids Cabin

Recently, I planned a get together with one of my friends at his parents often unused cabin. We invited some friends and planned to grill out and relax. I should have known from the way the morning went that the day was just not going to go as planned. I worked that morning and NOTHING went the way it was suppose to, in fact it was an absolute mess, and I left exhausted. However, I was looking forward to the evening and couldn't wait to get home and begin getting ready. I got off work around 2pm and went straight to the grocery store to buy stuff for my specialty Baked Mac 'n' Cheese, Red Velvet Cupcakes and French Onion Dip. I spent way too long at the grocery store so by the time I got home I only had two hours to cook, bake, shower and get ready for the night. Once I began cooking, I quickly ran into some problems. I realized that although I bought all the stuff to make cupcakes... I forgot to buy a pan. I was forced to make Red Velvet Cake. Okay... Fine. I also ran out of cheese while making my Baked Mac 'n' Cheese and, for me, that completely ruined it for me. Alas, I kept cooking/baking and in the midst of it all getting ready.

Yum

When it comes to being late to things, I am a complete crazy woman. I don't know if its my years of planning events that makes me realize how important being on time is but I really, really don't like being late. I rushed through getting ready and Trevor and I sped off to Hood to meet up with my friends, arriving at precisely 5pm. I rushed inside, excited to see all my friends, to arrive with no one there. Trevor and I sat there for about fifteen minutes before I began freaking out. I thought for sure everyone was cancelling on me and I was left with a massive amount of food. Neither of us had cell phones, so calling someone was out of the question. In the midst of panicking, I completely forgot that it was over 100 degrees outside and I probably shouldn't leave cake in my car. About a half hour later, people finally began showing up. Finally, we were headed to the cabin.

Kayla on the swing

The whole purpose of us all driving over at the same time was because the cabin was, according to David, impossible to find. Boy, was he ever so right, the cabin was only fifteen minutes from my house but getting there took forever. At some point, we ended up getting stuck behind tons of cars, on a road we can not turn around on, because a branch fell in the middle of the road. Then, randomly in the middle of another road, you turn into a forest and drive on a tiny path dodging trees attempting to make it to the cabin that is barely insight. Once arriving, I couldn't do the happy dance enough. While it may be two hours after the original "go" time, we were finally in a place that was peaceful, gorgeous and I was surrounded by people who I know would make the night fun. As the night played on, we were having fun and enjoying the delicious food. The cabin was so nice and we were all surprised we had never thought of getting together here before.

Kayla was one of my first friends at Hood

Shortly after a multitude of other things occurring, we finally got into the swing of things and had everyone together to play games. Kayla is one of the funniest/kindest people you will meet. She has such a natural sweet demeanor that when she gets scared or mad.... it's either hysterical or serious. At one point, a field mouse ran across the room and she began freaking out. That's the kind of thing that is hysterical and serious. Hysterical because she's freaking out, serious because I'm freaking out too. After that, I think my emotions were all over the place because of laughter and exhaustion.

Friends!

Throughout the time there, we always kept making jokes that this would be the place someone could get killed. There were absolutely no surroundings and it was just quiet. At some point, it began storming REALLY bad. None of us expected it, I don't know why we didn't check the weather but we didn't. We were all surprised. Once it started storming, almost all of our phones were either dead or in a no service zone. Comments, of course, were made that this is a scene from a horror movie. Come on-- if you think about it, it really is! We made jokes of who would be the first one to go. It was hilarious because it really, truly, was a scene from a movie.

Until, that is, it began to feel like a real life scary story.

Mid-sentence of someone making a crack about Freddy Krueger the electricity shut off. The girls (including myself), begin freaking out to the back drop of lightening and thunder. The electricity turns back on and we all laugh. Ha, ha, ha. How ironic... of course the electricity goes off. Two seconds later...

*Knock-Knock*

Y'all. Stop. If this was you.. you'd have peed your pants. Not only does it feel like your in a horror movie but LET ME REMIND YOU, we are in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE where one of the people who came WAS LOST FOR OVER A HALF HOUR and there isn't a SINGLE sign to where the house is, it's PITCH black outside, we weren't expecting ANYONE to come and all of our phones are off.

*Knock-Knock*
*Screams*
*Freaking Out*
Cue me and Kayla both gripping onto Trevor like we're about to die.
Trevor reaching for his pocket knife.
All of us staring at the door.
The wind howling.

David finally opens the door and in walks in his best friend, staring at us like we're all kinds of crazy.

Which we are. Well, me at least, I was mid panic attack and unsure of what to do.

After a while of calming down, we continued the night and it turned out to be a blast. However, I think I really need to lay off the scary shows/movies for a while.

Seems I'm a bit skittish.

Nails of the Week

I've gone through a lot of colors lately!

These are my nails right now. This picture was taken for a nail competition on Instagram!

I first did the striped nails with glitter but then I realized I really didn't like them and I changed them to the dotted ones.

I started the month off with Nautical

Felt like having a little pink in my life!

Had to celebrate the fourth of July!

Nail Subscription:
(not my picture)
In other exciting news I also signed up for  Julep Nail Subscription! I am SO excited to try Julep Nail Polish because I have heard such good reviews! I was classified as "Classic with a Twist" (how true!) and am receiving my intro box this week! I decided to try because *drum roll* IT WAS ONLY A PENNY! That's right, folks, I got two nail polishes & a cream for a penny! Which would retail at $14 each! Ahh. I love deals. I will write a review on the box once I get it but if you would like to get a box for a penny as well click this link:   http://www.julep.com/?r=22339216 & begin the process of becoming a Julep Maven. After you take your style quiz and begin to check out, type "PENNY" or "TWITTER1" in the discount box and WA-LA you have your polishes for a penny, including free shipping! Can't wait for my box to get here.

Nail Hauls:
This was a nail haul that was very different for me! I've never used the Onyx Quick Dry but I'm doing a "Girls Day" with three little girls that I watch on Thursday and I feel like this will help "Speed Up" the drying time. The youngest one is four and she ALWAYS smears them and has me to redo them! I also got them a surprise nail polish collection. It was at Five Below & was REALLY cheap. It has 24 colors so they can each get about 8 and enjoy them. I also got NYC Matte Polish which I have been ON THE HUNT for!! It was $1.50 at Walmart and I can't wait to try it! I also bought China Glaze "Cracked Concrete" and OPI "Red Shatter" both for $1.00 at Ulta Beauty. They were having a big sale on all their Crackle polish as well but they were out of the ones that I wanted :( I also bought another Nail shiner/polisher whatever it's called for 88 cents and a nail file for 88 cents because my dog ate my old ones yesterday.

I got this all yesterday at CVS which is usually where I get most of my discounted polishes but now Ulta has become my favorite. Anyways, we went to CVS because I ran out of both Polish remover & cotton squares. I usually use 100% acetone but it's killing my nails and I need to give it a break. I wasnt planning on buying nail polish but I couldn't pass up this deal. I bought all four of the Wet N Wild Shine nail polishes for 50 cents!!!! I also got the Sally Hansen HD nail polishes for $1.50 which is 75% off!

I have a 20% off coupon at both CVS and Ulta which I am saving for my next Haul (probably in a few weeks) which I am planning on getting Essie "Bikini So Teeny" and Essie "Play Date". I also really want to try Ciate Caviar Manicure but it's a little expensive for my taste. We will see.

Oh! Heads Up! Seventeen Magazine has a coupon for a free ORLY polish from Ulta Beauty!!! Get it while its hot! I'll be printing the coupon tomorrow :)

The best thing about summer

Is getting to wear dresses! Here is my favorite dress that I've been wearing out lately, I don't own a "LBD" (shocker, right?) but I own TONS of pink/floral summer dresses. Although I know most people like shorts & a tank in the summer, I think I'm a bit different and favor dresses. They scream feminism and dresses vary so that every body shape can find one that fits. Since I have lots of hips ;) I love dresses that are "sweetheart" style. I try and pair it with a cardigan, which can be tricky in the summer. However, I find very light cardigans to work perfectly or even tank cardigans that are similar to vests! To each her own :)

My favorite dress from Charlotte Russe. I bought this last summer. That white cardigan feels SO LIGHT and it's extremely comfortable. Also from Charlotte Russe. :)

I've also been gravitating towards purples and pinks for eye makeup! This is different for me because I normally only wear greens and blues because they make my eyes bluer. My eye color tends to be blue or green but I've been loving that I can make it more green with the purples and pinks! So refreshing!

What is your "go to" summer wear? In this weather, less is more!

Where have I been lately?

Well, I've been traveling!

First, I went to Virginia Beach, VA to visit family. Every time I cross this bridge, I know I made it home!

We went to Opsail at the Oceanfront! Opsail is where we get to see the Blue Angels demonstrate different techniques! They also set up a ton of vendors and stuff at the strip, it's awesome.

My Mom's church :) I love it there!

Then I went to Cape Cod, Massachusetts for a BEAUTIFUL wedding!

We landed in Boston!

We were so tired but ready for the nice weather and vacation!

& of course the Lobster & Steak, YUM!

We enjoyed a beautiful wedding the next day!

It was such a lovely location & the Bride & Groom's vows made me cry! I felt so blessed to be there.

We danced, ate a wonderful dinner & drank at the reception & then joined everyone at a local bar where the Groom & Bride celebrated the wedding!

The next day we woke up to this:

& helped Trevor's Dad make a delicious brunch for the whole wedding party & some of the guests!

We of course had to explore the beach. It was in the high 60s most of the time and felt SO GOOD.

The following day we made the LONG trip back to Maryland! Even though we flew up, we drove down with Trevor's Dad and Step-Mom. On the way back, we stopped at this New Jersey Train-Diner that we always see every Christmas. It was Trevor and My first time there and it was SO GOOD. I, of course, had to order the disco fries! I wish that was all I got because I didn't realize how much FOOD they gave you! I was overwhelmed and basically all I ate was the disco fries anyways :3

Welp, 9 hours later we finally made it back to Maryland! What a great time I had! Both in VA and MA! It was so nice to just relax and spend time with family! I am so blessed!
